SIBU: University College of Technology Sarawak (UCTS) has again assured the public that all its programmes are recognised, accredited and approved by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) and Higher Education Ministry.
Its vice chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Abdul Hakim Juri said its programmes were also recognised by professional bodies such as Board of Quantity Surveyors Malaysia, Board of Engineers Malaysia and Board of Architects Malaysia.“There are speculations and talks at coffee shops around the town about the recognition of our programmes.
“We sincerely urge the public to verify with us directly on this matter. This is very serious and the allegation has to be corrected,” he told a press conference at UCTS campus in Teng Chin Hua Road here yesterday.
Abdul Hakim said UCTS was owned by the state government and hence it definitely would not offer programmes that were not recognised by the government. He said four programmes, namely Foundation in Science, Foundation in Arts, Bachelor of Business Administration and Bachelor of Quantity Surveying were MQA accredited.“The rest of the programmes have also received provisional accreditation and will be followed by full accreditation when the time comes,” he said.
UCTS, established in 2013, is among the few universities in Malaysia to have its very own technology park.It offers two foundations, 11 undergraduate programmes and five postgraduate programmes. This year, UCTS is expecting its enrolment to increase from 1,200 to 2,000 students.
Several new academic programmes are also being planned for this year, namely Bachelor in Manufacturing and Materials Engineering, Bachelor in Marketing, Master in Project Management, Master in Computing, Master in Architecture (LAM Part 2) and PhD Computing.
